Official Visitor Information Service

The English Riviera Tourism Company is responsible for operating and managing the official Visitor Information Service across the resort which is used by around 500,000 visitors a year.

The service is based from our head office in Torquay where the Visitor Information Centre on the harbourside is open all year round, 5 days a week 9.30am - 2pm.

We are pround to announce we have recently won the Visit Devon Gold Award for the best Tourist Information Service in Devon.

There are also a number of independent Visitor Information Points operating across the resort including one at the Riviera International Conference Centre Torquay, Dot's Pantry Torquay, Hobb Nobs Brixham, Churston Farm Shop Brixham, Torbay Bookshop Paignton, Stagecoach Travel Office Paignton, Forget-Me-Not Gift Shop St Marychurch and Romney Jones Café who are located on the approach road to Torquay from the A380.

In addition to providing a professional information service the Visitor Information Service operates as a comprehensive accommodation booking and ticket agency selling tickets for local attractions including: boat trips, local events, car parks and theatres.

The English Riviera Tourism Companyhave introduced an iPhone and Android app which is a fantastic resource for visitors any time of the day - several of my visitors have used the app and the feedback has been really positive.

The ERTC is a great team - extremely helpful and supportive.  For a small team, they manage to get big results through creative initiatives on minimum resources.  They deserve to be recognized for the terrific job they do.

We believe that the Visitor Information Services in Torbay are excellent and whole heartedly support them. The 3 visitor information centres offer excellent facilities for tourists to speak to a local member of staff, book tickets for attractions, theatres and ferry services as well as accommodation. The website s always available in our guest lounge and is regularly used by guests to search for things to do and see. It is our view that the English Riviera Tourism Company and the Visitor Information Services have greatly increased the accessibility of information for Tourists visiting the area, both before and during their stay.

The newly produced downloadable app has brought tourism in Torbay right up to the minute so we are all accessible 24 hours a day to someone wanting to holiday in our beautiful area that is South Devon. With the present economic climate we feel that our businesses are doing possibly better than a lot given the support from the ERTC. 

The addition of the ERTC promo video South Devon’s Beautiful Bay has been a fabulous addition to our website to entice guests to the area.

Shearings have been very impressed by the excellent work carried out by the English Riviera Tourism Company since their creation a couple of years ago. The progress made in this very short time is amazing especially when compared to previous years.  We believe that the development of the My Riviera apps, along with the development of the new android versions clearly demonstrates that the ERTC recognises and embraces these new technologies and is a head of the curve, when compared to the vast majority of the other resorts we operate in. We operate four hotels locally.

These new developments not only offer a new exciting way of connecting and reaching our customers before they arrive in the resort, it also provides them with fantastic up to date information whilst they are here with us. The team at the ERTC deserve to be congratulated for their achievements. In a very short period of time they have set up a new company, launched a fantastic new website and delivered these new apps. All this done on a very tight budget and with a relatively small team of dedicated professionals who are passionate about both their work and the English Riviera.

The English Riviera Tourist Information service I believe is the new benchmark of partnership working for the provision of visitor information which has developed into an engaging modern tool for today’s needs.  A lean mean advertising and information machine!  The service provided to visitors to the bay is invaluable.  In the past 18 months The English Riviera has been lucky enough to see a more modernised counter service and tourism hubs in addition to new App’s and Widgets for the promotion of the bay as an in-hand mobile guide to ‘what’s on’ in the area in addition to accommodation, attractions and eating out.  As an attraction and transport service in Torquay and Brixham we have found the Tourism Information Service is pivotal to our business model by giving out unbiased information and acting as ticketing agent for our business.  The Information Service in the last 18 months has seen large cuts in funding; however its achievements during the period of transition have been greater than the past 10 years.  The TIC team should be commended for their service to the Bay and for the modernising approach it has taken.
